    Arylia FAQ

Below are some answers to some of the most frequently asked questions with Arylia, archived for your reference and convenience.

Why do I get a confusing Fatal error when I access Arylia 3 for the first time?

Most likely, you have not installed Zend Optimizer, or you're using an old version. Arylia 3 requires Zend Optimizer 3.3.0 or newer.

What identifiers are recognized by Arylia 3?

__FULLTITLE__ -- The gallery name you specified when the gallery was built, exactly as you entered it.

__TITLE__ -- The gallery name you specified when the gallery was built, with numbers removed.

__DESCRIPTION__ -- The description of the gallery entered when it was created.

__THUMBNAILS__ -- A table of thumbnails which is as large as necessary to accommodate every thumbnail downloaded. Every thumbnail is the same size. Cannot be used with __THUMB.W.H__ and is only recognized on a gallery template (not a media template)

__THUMB.W.H__ -- A single thumbnail in an "advanced" template, with a specified width and height. This allows you to place each thumb individually. Cannot be used with __THUMBNAILS__ and is only recognized on a gallery template (not a media template)

__LONGBANNER__ -- A banner identifier, which indicates that a "long" banner should be selected by default.

__SQUAREBANNER__ -- A banner identifier, which indicates that a "square" banner should be selected by default.

__TALLBANNER__ -- A banner identifier, which indicates that a "tall" banner should be selected by default.

__HTMLBANNER__ -- A banner identifier, which indicates that a "html" banner should be selected by default. (For consistency, html text is still considered a "banner" even though there may be no image associated with it.)

__TEXTBANNER__ -- A banner identifier, which indicates that a "text" banner should be selected by default. (For consistency, plain text is still considered a "banner" even though there is no image associated with it.)

__2257URL__ -- The 2257 URL associated with this site.

__EMBED__ -- An embedded video. The code that is inserted at this identifier's location is customizable using the "Embedded Players" page in the admin section of Arylia 3.

__VTHUMB__ or __VTHUMB.W.H__ -- A video thumbnail that links to a video. If just __VTHUMB__ is specified, the thumbnail is the original still image captured by Arylia. If a width and height are given, e.g. __VTHUMB.320.240__, the thumbnail is produced by cropping the still image to the specified dimensions. This identifier is only recognized on a gallery template (not a media template).

__IMAGE__ -- One full-size image. Only recognized on an image template, which should end in -image.php.

__NEXTURL__, __PREVURL__ -- The URLs of the next and previous images in sequence. Only recognized on an image template, which should end in -image.php. You can also use the syntax __IFNEXT{ <a href="__NEXTURL__">Next</a> }IFNEXT__ to make the next link only appear if there is a next image. The same works for __IFPREV{ ... }IFPREV__

__IMAGEHEIGHT__, __IMAGEWIDTH__ -- The height and width of the current image. Only recognized on an image template, which should end in -image.php.

__IMAGENUM__ -- The sequential number of the current image. Only recognized on an image template, which should end in -image.php.

__IMAGECOUNT__ -- The total number of images in the gallery. Only recognized on an image template, which should end in -image.php.

__HOME__ -- The URL of the gallery. Only recognized on a media template, which should end in -image.php or -video.php.

Can I use identifiers other than those ones, for special purposes?

Of course. Simply add the identifier to your template. Make sure it begins and ends with two underscores, and only contains letters, numbers, and periods in between. When Arylia finds it on your template, it will be added to your create gallery form automatically.

I can't get the installation screen to appear. What's wrong?

If you see anything other than a blank white screen with an error message, please contact us using our contact form and tell us exactly what output you are getting instead of the installation page.

The error "Fatal error: Unable to read XXXX bytes in app/functions.inc.php on line 0" indicates that binary (encoded) files were uploaded in ascii mode. You must force binary mode when uploading the files in the "app" folder.

A fatal error that talks about minor version 2 or 3 is due to an incompatible version of Zend Optimizer installed on the system. Arylia 3 requires Zend Optimizer 3.3.0 or higher.
