Arylia Server Compatibility
Before you even download the script, you should check to make sure that your server is capable of running Arylia, and in particular, of taking advantage of the features you want to use. The following items are required to use Arylia 3:
- Some variety of Linux, Unix, or BSD. Windows is not supported.
- A web server running PHP 5.3.x
- MySQL 4.1 or greater, supported in PHP (configured --with-mysql).
- CURL 7.xx.x installed and supported in PHP (configured --with-curl)
- GD 2.0 or greater, supported in PHP (configured --with-gd).
- Session support.
- Arylia needs to be able to use basic shell commands for manipulating files (e.g. cp, rm, mkdir, mv, etc.)
- As always, the PHP settings upload_max_filesize, post_max_size, and memory_limit should be set adequately high, depending on the size of the files you want Arylia to be able to handle.
In addition, the following features require the corresponding server configuration in order to work:
- Batch Gallery Creation requires PHP-CLI to be available, with PHP 5.3.x
- ImageMagick optimizations require ImageMagick ("convert") to be installed and present somewhere in the path of your web server.
- Video resizing, re-encoding, and still image generation requires the ffmpeg library. If you have an old version of ffmpeg (more than a year old), we strongly suggest recompiling it, as it is constantly being improved. Also, the "ffmpeg" executable itself must be in the path of your web server.
- Zip file handling requires the "unzip" executable to be present somewhere in the path of your web server.
Arylia Installation Procedure
- Download and unpack the archive (zip or rar file).
- In a text editor, navigate into the "common" subfolder of the archive, and open the file "config.inc.php".
- Update the values at the top of that file to your database configuration settings: hostname, username, password, database name, and a prefix that Arylia should prepend to table names. Save the file.
- Upload the entire arylia directory to your web server. It is adviseable to upload all php files as ASCII. You can rename the folder if you like, but some features will require additional reconfiguration if you rename it. For this reason, we suggest leaving it named "arylia", at least until you are familiar enough with the software to be able to troubleshoot it.
- Open your web browser and point it to the folder you just uploaded. You should be automatically directed to the installation screen, which will scan your system for potential problems and notify you of any problems. If you do not see the installation page, look at the fourth question on the FAQ page for more information on what is causing it.
- After you've eliminated any critical errors, and are comfortable with the warnings, click the link labeled "Install Arylia 3". Arylia will install very quickly; this is normal.
- Log in with the username "admin" and the password "temp". Click the "Admin" tab and immediately change the password and, if you would like, the username.
- Congratulations -- Arylia 3 is installed!
